Will
Problems arise?
You bet! With several years of directing experience and going through
almost every possible problem which could arise, you can be assured
we will not satisfy EVERY player and parent in the club. Charleston
Juniors states in writing what your benefits are and what you can
expect. Players and Parents are required to read the Player/Parent
Manual and our commitment agreement.

What
is the difference in National, Regional and Instructional Teams?
National Team(s) are for the player whose goal is to play at the
college level. Regional Teams are for those players trying to raise
their skill level to play on a (1) National Team or (2) High School
Varsity or JV Team. Instructional Teams are to introduce the younger
player to volleyball, teaching them the fundamentals and for those
girls who are 12 and under, improve their fundamentals and further
their skills.

What
is the cost and what do the fees include?
The fees include all coaching, gym and uniform expenses, but does
not include any travel related expenses (food, transportation and
lodging) that are incurred for tournaments. Charleston Juniors has
a season fee based on the team you are placed on (See fee section
for amounts) The cost to participate is one total fee, we divide
the fee into installments as a convenience to parents. Please have
the courtesy to pay on time.
A
good two day summer camp for Volleyball may cost between $200-$500.
This is for a 2 day camp which may have 10-12 hours of instruction
and 1-2 hours of play. For 40-50 hours of practice and 60-80 games,
the cost of Club is much less expensive. Players in larger programs
pay $1,000 to $5,000 to join.

How
long does the season last?

team assignments are made. All teams will play through the Palmetto
Regional Tournament in April, regular season ends on this date.
Should a team advance to the Nationals, their season will continue
until the first week of July.

Will
I play the same position that I play in school?
Not always. We may move and train a player to play a different position
than they played in school based on the need of the team. On our
top teams, you must be willing to play any position.

How
is tournament play time handled?
Most parents want or expect their child to play all the time during
tournament play. This is the number one problem of clubs throughout
the United States. We hope the following will resolve most concerns.
Charleston Juniors has designed a program to offer everyone a choice.
All players should get equal practice time. Charleston Juniors will
give NO guarantee of playing time for the teams, they will
offer fair playing time to each team player. Fair is not equal,
we will play your daughter as much as possible taking into consideration
skill level, competition, position and practice time attended.
The
player and only the player can discuss playing time with a Coach.
Do not discuss playing time at a tournament. The time to discuss
playing time is at the practice following the tournament.

How
many players will be assigned to a team?
We try to limit team size to approximately 10 players. There may
be a special circumstance where there would be more than 10 on a
team.

What
if I quit or leave the program early?
We hope a player does not quit. Sometimes circumstances require
one to leave the program. Please be aware you are responsible for
your entire uniform cost and for the installment fee in the month
you leave. If you plan to leave, we require you notify us in writing.
No refunds will be given.

How
are practice locations assigned?
One of the most difficult things we face each year is finding practice
locations. If you can help us retain gyms, please contact the club
director. Players must be willing to practice at the locations we
have available. Team practice sites will be announced by the end
of tryouts.

Can
players miss practices or tournaments?
We request initially you consider our practice schedule and tournament
travel. We want girls who are committed. If you miss a practice,
we require you to notify your coach a minimum of 48hours in advance.
Fees are the same regardless if you miss any practices or tournaments.
Check practice requirements of the different type teams before you
commit.

Are
all players required to attend tournaments?
You Bet! The National Team requires mandatory attendance to all
tournaments. Regional Team members are REQUIRED to inform their
coach a minimum of 2 weeks in advance of not being able to attend
a tournament. It is not fair to the team, coach, club and tournament
host for players to call at the last minute and cancel.

How
is the quality of training?
The Charleston Juniors prides itself on having the best coaches
available for training. We limit the number of teams we will provide
to the number of quality coaches we can acquire. Charleston Junior
coaches train each player with the same drills and skills the junior
national team uses. Team coaches will be announced at the end of
tryouts.

How
is team placement handled?
Another major concern for many players and parents is team placement.
I can assure you that the tryout system we use is very fair and
accurate. There will be players who are on the border between being
placed on a higher or lower team. If a player is a number 7,8, or
9 player on the team, they could be the number 1,2, or 3 player
on the next team. There are advantages to playing on a lower team,
more playing time, being one of the top players verses the lower
players, self-esteem, etc. Our entire coaching staff evaluates each
player and a committee makes placement decisions. Teams from previous
years are not necessarily kept together, each year talent is re-evaluated.
National Team members will be determined after try-outs.

How
do I handle a problem?
If a problem arises, we ask that the player, and only the player,
approach the coach. If a parent needs to get involved or is not
satisfied, we require the complaint be placed in writing
and submitted to the director. At no time is a coach to be approached
or confronted with a complaint. If a coach is confronted directly
during a tournament, your daughter will be benched for the remainder
of the game. The coach will decide whether the player will be allowed
to play during the remainder of the tournament. Many players are
only a few years from college, we believe the player, not the parent,
must learn to discuss their concerns with their coach.

Will
I have the same coach through the entire season?
It is our plan and we request our coaches be at practices and tournaments.
We can't expect a coach to be at every practice and every tournament.
Charleston Juniors have substitute coaches whoare used in the event
a head coach can not attend a practice or tournament. There may be
times a team must practice with another team. It is possible we can't
replace a coach who has a conflict for a tournament. The team will
have a choice to attend with a parent helping, share a coach with
another team, or not attend. |
