Elizabeth Beckham  

Elizabeth has been coaching with the Charleston Juniors since 2004. In 2007 she assisted with the 16 Red Team, winning the Palmetto Championship in the Open Division and accompanied theteam to the USAV Nationals in Minneapolis, MN.

A member of the Summerville High School Volleyball Team, Liz achieved All State and All Region team selection for 4 consecutive years. She led her team to a State Championship in 2002 and was named South Carolina Player of the Year.

As a member of the Clemson Tigers Volleyball Team, Liz was a member of the all ACC Freshman Team and Freshman Player of the Year. She still holds the record for most digs in a match.

Liz began playing for the Charleston Juniors in 1995, at the age of 9. Under the instruction of Coach Stemple, Coach Bellush and Coach Khaledi, Liz attended the National Championships 4 times during her 9 years with the Charleston Juniors. In 2002, at the USAV National Invitational Tournament in Louisville, KY, Liz was named to the All Tournament Team.

Danyel Bellush  

Danyel has been coaching with the Charleston Juniors since 1996. Her hardwork ethic and positive re-enforcement of the players fundamentals helps each player polish their skills.

Danyel is the Head Volleyball Coach at Charleston Southern University. As a player, Danyel played four years for CSU. Her high school career included four years playing for Osbourn Park High School in Manassas, Virginia, and four years of Club with the Fairfax Juniors.

Danyel assisted Coach Khaledi, with our National Teams from 2001-2005. In 2006 as head coach of the 18 National team, the team qualified and represented the Palmetto Region at the USAV Nationals in Atlanta. Danyel's college experience helps prepare our players for their transition from High School to College.

Christina Crawford
 

Christi Crawford has Coached with the Charleston Juniors since 2001. Christi played high school volleyball in Indianapolis before playing college ball for Saint Joseph's College. Currently the Coach of Charleston Day School, Christi has coached at the high school level for four years.

In 2006 Christi began working with our 12 and under players. This age group is the future champions for our local high schools and Club. Christi has the patience and understanding the younger players need. Learning basic skills at an early age is our Club's goal.

Christi's 2003-2004 15 National Team finished 10th at the Northeast Qualifier in Baltimore and 19th at the AAU National Championships in Orlando.

Amelia Dawley  
 

2007 will be Amelia's first year coaching with the Charleston Juniors. Hardly a stranger to the Club, Amelia has been a parent of a Charleston Jrs player since 2000.

Amelia earned a B.S. Degree in Secondary Education from the College of Charleston in 1976 where she played volleyball and basketball. She coached volleyball, basketball and track at Ft Johnson High from 1976 - 1979 before becoming the tennis, volleyball and basketball Coach at First Baptist College from 1979 - 1982. In 1984 Amelia became the Head Volleyball Coach and Assostant Basketball Coach at her alma mater, the College of Charleston from 1984 - 1989. While at the College her volleyball teams won the NAIA District Championship 3 times and finished in the top 20 for 3 years. Three of her C of C players garnished All American Awards.

In 1989, Amelia left coaching to focus on raising her two children. She returned to coaching and teach in 1994 to take over the Bishop England Volleyball program. Her BE teams have won 13 region championships, 10 Lower State Championships and 9 State Championships during her 13 years at Bishop England. She has coached numerous All State and All Star players and has had 14 players continue their volleyball careers on the college level.

Amelia is a member of the College of Charleston and Charleston Southern Athletic Halls of Fame. Her 25 year career coaching record is 664-200.

Jamaica Hicks  
 

Jamaica Hicks has coached with the Charleston Juniors since 2001. She currently assists Coach Mary Jo Stemple with the 15 Red team.

Jamaica began her volleyball career playing Club with the Smokey Mountain Juniors out of Knoxville, Tennessee. Jamaica's young start with her Club provided her the ability to play on the 18 and Under Team beginning at the age of 14. A four year varsity player at South Doyle High School in Knoxville, Jamaica continued her volleyball career with four years at Charleston Southern University.

Jamaica's knowledge and love of the game, along with her experience as a collegiate player enables her to help our players.

Christy Jickling
 

2007/2008 will be Christy Jickling's second year coaching with the Charleston Juniors. In 2006/2007 Christy assisted Coach Danyel Bellush with the 18 Red Team.

As the head volleyball Coach at West Ashley High School, Christy has achieved outstanding results. Her team was the 2005 4AAAA State Champions as well as the 2004-2007 Region 7 AAAA champs. Named the Region 7 AAAA Coach of the Year in 2005 - 2007, Christy also garnished the title of South Carolina Volleyball Coach of the year in 2005.

Christy played college volleyball for the University of Alberta (Canada). As team captain in 1996 and 1997, Christy led her team as Canada West Conference Champions and CIS National Champions in 1995, 1996, and 1997. In addition to participating in the Japan Tour in 1994, Christy has also played internationally in Switzerland and Sweden. Her club playing experience includes the Edmonton Volleyball Club, where Christy was a member of the 1991 18's Canadian Champion team.

Besides her busy volleyball duties, Christy also teaches 10th grade honor's English, 9th and 12th grade English and each summer works with the Lowcountry Writing Project at The Citadel. She is currently pursuing her Masters of Arts (English) at the College of Charleston/The Citadel.

Christy brings a wealth of volleyball experience and knowledge to the Charleston Juniors, and we are proud to say she is a member of our Club.

 

 

Amir Khaledi
 

Currently the Assistant Volleyball Coach at the Citadel, Amir Khaledi has coached our 18 National Teams since 1997. Our Club is very fortunate to have a college coach with his volleyball résumé.

Amir played four years with Kharazmi High School in Tehran and was selected All-City, All Region and All Country. He also played on Iran's Junior Olympic National Team for 3 years. He played 3 years with the University of Vermont earning the honor of All Conference and All Region. Amir has coached Junior Olympic Volleyball since 1993. He spent nine years as Head Coach at Charleston Southern University where he was named Conference Coach of the Year three times, received the AVCA Distinguished Coaches Award, the AVCA 100, 150, and 200 Victory Club Award, and the AVCA Top 10 Winning Percentage Award. Amir has received certification under US Volleyball Cap I and Impact Coaching/Officiating Class by the International Federation of Volleyball.

Amir's Club accomplishments include: five Region Championships, four trips to the USAV Nationals, and one trip to the first Junior Olympic National Invitational. In 2001, his team finished 7th in the AAU Nationals. At the 2004 Nationals In Houston, his team defeated the defending National Champions from Hawaii.

For those players whose goal is college, Amir's training is the bridge between high school and college.

 

Jake Lawrence
 

Jake Lawrence is currently Assistant Coach at the College of Charleston, after spending the past four seasons as the Undergraduate Assistant Coach at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. One of his primary duties at C of C is the training of the team's outside hitters.

The Pittsburgh, PA native brings a wealth of club experience to the Charleston Juniors. He spent two years as a head coach with the nationally renowned Team Z Volleyball Club in Cincinnati. His team earned a fifth place finish at the National Invitation Tournament with one of his players earning all-tournament honors. Jake also spent the 2004-2005 season as a certified USA Volleyball Official in the Ohio Valley Region of USA Volleyball. In 2004 Jake was a head coach of the Renaissance Volleyball Club of Pittsburgh, where he was also a player from 1998-2002. His 2003 Renaissance team finished 11th nationally in the Open Division. As a player with Renaissance he earned a USAV Silver Medal in 2001, an All-America nomination in 2000 and 2001, and a regional championship in 1999. His team made four consecutive National championships appearances from 1999-2002 and was ranked third in the nation in 2001.

Jake received his Bachelor's Degree in Political Science in May of 2006.

Jennifer Monson
 

Jen Monson has coached with the Charleston Juniors since 2001. She was two year starter at Northwest Missouri State University as well as a two year starter for Charleston Southern University. At CSU, Jen received All-Conference and MVP awards both years. She also was a member of the All-Tournament Teams at Florida State, Georgia State, Furman and South Carolina State Tournaments. Jen received her Bachelors degree in Kinesiology from CSU and received her masters degree in Health, Exercise and Sports Science from The Citadel. While attending The Citadel, Jen was the Assistant Volleyball Coach.

Jen spent the 2005-2006 Volleyball season in Bratislava, Slovakia playing professional volleyball while working with Athletes in Action. Currently she is a personal trainer at the East Shore Athletic Club. We are pleased to have Jen back on staff this Season.

Susan Speights

 

 

 

 

 

 

2006 was Susan's first year coaching with the Charleston Juniors. A former Club member herself, Susan began her club experience as a member of Mary Jo Stemple's 14 and under team. Susan continued with the Club through High School, and attended the National Championships in Salt Lake City.

Currently a senior at the College of Charleston, Susan has been coaching volleyball since high school graduation. The past several years as head coach of the First Baptist Volleyball team.

We are pleased to have Susan coach our 14 Red Team this season.

Mary Jo Stemple  
 

Mary Jo coaches our top 15 and under team. She is dedicated to having each player learn the correct fundamentals of each volleyball skill. As her players mature and move through the different levels; it is easy to spot her former pupils. Their footwork and court knowledge can be seen immediately, but more important, you can see they are fundamentally sound in every aspect of their play.

Coach Stemple played two years of volleyball at Coker College. A physical education teacher and athletic director at Mason Prep, she has coached Mason Prep's volleyball team since 1991. Her teams have been middle school champs all but twice in this time period. In 2006, her 8th grade team placed 1st in the Upstate Tournament.

Mary Jo has successfully coached with the Charleston Juniors since 1994. With the exception of one year, her teams have successfully qualifed to attend the USAV Junior Nationals, representing the Palmetto Region. Her 2005 team placed 5th out of 56 at the AAU Nationals and 13th out of 48 at the USAV Nationals in Salt Lake City. In 2006, her team finished 3rd at the Big South National Qualifier in Atlanta, 3rd at the Northeast Qualifier in Baltimore, MD and 15th at the AAU Nationals in Orlando, FL. Her 2007 team earned the right to represent the Palmetto Region at the USAV Nationals in Minneapolis, MN.

Each summer, Mary Jo holds an outstanding summer camp for girls age 10-16.

 

Carrie Yohe  

For many years Carrie Yohe coached our 12 and under program. Her 2000 and 2001 12 year old teams competed in the USAVB Nationals in the 13 and under category in 2001 and 2002.

Carrie played four years at Charleston Southern University. There she was most valuable player in 1997 and 1998 as well as Senior Female Athlete of the Year. Carrie played 4 years for Elyria High School in Elyria, Ohio, where she received All County and All District Player Awards. Additionally, Carrie played two years with the Cleveland Volleyball Club.

In 2007 Carrie returned to her alma mater and assisted Coach Danyel Bellush with the Charleston Southern Volleyball Team.

Carrie has coached with our Club since 1996. Her ability to teach these young players the basic skills of the game provides the foundation for the teams of the future.
